Lymphatic System
There are two circulation systems in our body....the blood circulation and the
lymph circulation. The lymph system is a major part of the immune system.
The lymph system consists of lymph nodes, lymph vessels and lymph fluid.
The system also produces lymphocytes that kills bacteria and viruses. Lymph
fluid is formed when interstitial fluid enters the initial lymph vessels. There are
roughly 6 - 10 liters of lymph fluid in the body. Unlike blood having the heart
pumping it, the lymph fluid is moved along the lymph vessel network by either
intrinsic contractions of the lymphatic passages or by extrinsic compression
of the lymphatic vessels via skeletal muscle contraction. That is why lymph
circulation is much slower than blood circulation.

What is Lymphatic Drainage Massage ?
Lymphatic system is your primary defense against bacteria, viruses and
mostly superficial. Lymph Drainage Massage is a superficial and stimulating
massage with light pressure and oil is applied to lubricate the skin. The
massage technique involves stimulating and increasing the lymph circulation,
as well as clearing blockages with lymph nodes and vessels through out the
whole body. Soft pumping wave-like strokes are used to stimulate the lymph
fluid to flow in the direction of the lymph nodes where the lymph fluid is
filtered and then returned to the blood. The massage therapist will also focus
on areas with high concentration of lymph nodes such as neck, underarms,
pelvic area and legs. Female breast consists of a lot of lymph fluid, thus
breast lymphatic drainage could be included (with consent). This is an
effective treatment to reduce edema and boost the immune system by
removing harmful toxins. Typically a session lasts 60 minutes and 2 to 3
sessions are recommended. However, the number of sessions varies,
depending on the specifics of the client's case. Generally, maintenance
sessions are recommended as well and are typically scheduled at two- to
four-week intervals.

Lymphatic Drainage Massage Benefits :
The idea behind lymph drainage massage therapy is that lymph fluid can
become stale over time. This stagnation could be caused by such things as
fatigue, stress, inflammation, swelling, age, or even lack of physical activity.
By some accounts, lymph flow can even become stagnant due to such things
as improperly fitted bras or those that are worn for longer-than-average
amounts of time. When lymphatic circulation slows down too much, cell
regeneration may becomes far less than optimal. As such, toxins and
proteins are allowed to accumulate around the cells, leading to decreased
tissue regeneration and impaired immune function. Female breast holds
good amount of lymph fluid and stagnation could really affect the breast
health...may even cause breast cancer.

These are the key benefits.

  •        increases lymph flow
  •        helps remove harmful toxins from tissues
  •        reduces edema
  •        improves the production of lymphocytes thereby boosting the immune system
  •        improves overall health and well-being
  •        reduces swelling, bruising and inflammation, alleviates pain, optimizes surgical results after
cosmetic surgery such as Liposuction, Tummy Tuck and Brazilian Butt Lift
  •        speeds up the post cosmetic surgery recovery process
  •        good for post breast cancer surgery (consult your doctor first)
